Background

The Notify Now app simplifies the process of reporting notifiable animal diseases, enabling veterinarians, farmers, and animal owners to promptly alert authorities. By facilitating the rapid communication of suspected cases to Agriculture Victoria’s Chief Veterinary Officer, the app helps accelerate response times, enhance disease monitoring, and strengthen containment efforts.

The Problem

The current version of the Notify Now app has remained unchanged for several years, lacking technical enhancements or design updates. To address this, Agriculture Victoria plans for a comprehensive redevelopment, introducing modern UI and an entirely new code base. This upgrade aims to future-proof the platform, ensuring it remains reliable, efficient, and adaptable to emerging biosecurity challenges.

My Role

As the sole designer on this project, I managed the entire process from initial exploration to final implementation. This included conducting client briefings, conceptualising improvements, presenting ideas, and refining them into the final designs. I collaborated closely with the development team to align on project requirements and execution, ensuring smooth integration of design and development for a polished final product.

The Notify Now app was designed with a straightforward user interface (UI) to facilitate quick and efficient disease reporting. The current version features a basic, no-frills layout, prioritising functionality over aesthetics. While the interface is simple, it lacks modern design elements that could enhance usability, such as intuitive navigation, streamlined workflows, and visually clear data presentation.

From a user experience (UX) perspective, the app effectively serves its core purpose, enabling fast disease notifications, but presents challenges in terms of ease of use and efficiency. Some users may find the reporting process less intuitive, with a dated interface and limited interactivity.

The redevelopment of the Notify Now app marks a significant step toward improving biosecurity reporting in Victoria. By replacing the outdated UI and enhancing the overall user experience, the new version ensures that veterinarians, farmers, and animal owners can report notifiable diseases more efficiently and accurately.
